Volunteer

Office Volunteer Applications are OPEN as of December 2023!

Since 1978, OASIS, Inc. volunteers have been providing crisis intervention and support for victims of domestic and sexual violence.  Volunteers make it possible for OASIS to be available to victims and survivors 24-hours a day, 365 days per year. Volunteer options are listed to the right.

OASIS asks for a 6 month commitment from volunteers.

Volunteers must get a background check prior to volunteering. This costs approximately $20. OASIS asks that volunteers pay for this if possible.

During COVID-19 OASIS asks for volunteers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID.

Intern

INTERN WITH OASIS

Internship Applications are closed.

Internship Purpose: The agency’s goal for interns is to have a meaningful experience working with survivors of sexual and domestic violence and learning about the dynamics of a small non-profit agency.  After a period of orientation and observation, interns will have the opportunity to work directly with clients and children.  The Internship Program Coordinator provides on-going supervision, guidance, and professional development.  Interns may be able to support clients in judicial systems advocacy, medical advocacy, case management, crisis counseling, support group facilitation, community outreach and education events, and other administrative responsibilities.

Who Should Apply: Both undergraduate and graduate level students are welcome to apply. This internship is likely to be of particular interest of students pursuing degrees in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Public Relations, Communications, etc.

At OASIS, we generally require our interns to commit to a one-year internship term due to the required training requirements. Internship hours will vary based on the total required hours for student internships. Work will generally occur between the hours of 8:00 am- 5:00 pm; however, there are after-hour and weekend opportunities. Interns will be required to work in both of our service area counties, Avery and Watauga.

How to Apply: Complete the online Internship Application here on our website. You can check availability or when the application opens by following us on social media (Facebook or Instagram). Typically, the application opens in the February prior to the start of the next academic year and start of the internship.

OASIS encourages potential applicants to speak with their university advisor, particularly if in the Social Work degree program. Candidates who are recommended by department advisors are prioritized through the interview process.

The OASIS, Inc. Internship Coordinator is our Agency Operations Manager, Ariel C. Malec, who you can reach at amalec@oasisinc.org if there are any significant issues or questions.
